Donald MacArthur Hutton

Hutton, Donald MacArthur (Don) passed away peacefully at home on March 9th, 2026, surrounded by love, with his wife of 20 years and his father-in-law by his side, after a courageous battle with ALS.

Born in Toronto in 1964, Don dedicated more than three decades of his life to public service. He spent 31 years working for the City of Mississauga as a transit operator, a career he was deeply proud of and one that reflected his strong work ethic and commitment to his community. In fulfillment of a long-held dream, Don later moved to Nova Scotia, where his family roots run deep. There, he continued his service by driving a school bus for STC for four years.

While Don valued his long career in public transit, it was his time as a school bus driver that brought him the greatest fulfillment. Serving his community’s children gave him immense joy, and the students he transported each day held a special place in his heart. He took pride in ensuring their safety and loved the connections he formed along the way.

Don was a devoted husband to his wife, Jenn, whom he shared 20 loving years with. He is survived by his son, Jaden (Sarah), Midland, Ontario; his father-in-law, Armand, Middle Sackville; his brother-in-law, Jason, Milton, Ontario; his nephew, Aiden, Milton, Ontario; and many cherished cousins, friends, and neighbours.  He was also lovingly accompanied throughout his illness by his faithful fur babies, Quinn, Emmett, and Spencer, whose companionship brought him comfort and peace.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Sean Taylor and Vicki Guy for their compassionate care, kindness, and unwavering support during Don’s illness.

All are welcome to celebrate Don’s life on Friday, March 13th, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. (Eulogy Service at 5pm)  at the Steele Wheels Motor Museum, 66 Otter Lake Court, Bayers Lake, Halifax, Nova Scotia, B3S 1L9. In lieu of flowers, donations in Don’s memory may be made to ALS Canada. Donations

Don will be remembered for his dedication to service, his quiet strength, his love for family, and the kindness he shared so freely with everyone he met.
