Obituary of Clarence George Tibbo
July 17, 1953 – February 10, 2025
Clarence George Tibbo, 71, of Middle Sackville, Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2025, at the Halifax Infirmary, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 17, 1953, in Halifax and will be remembered for his kindness, unwavering commitment to family, and dedication to his career.
A Life of Dedication and Hard Work
Clarence spent 36 years as a professional truck driver with Pole Star / Armour, earning Two Million Mile Awards, totaling 2.5 million miles for his exceptional skill and dedication. He took immense pride in his career, often spending his off-duty hours meticulously cleaning his truck until it gleamed—a reflection of his dedication and work ethic.
Clarence loved the open road and the hum of an engine. When he met the love of his life, Lynne, he proudly drove a 1962 Impala—his prized possession. But as his life with Lynne and her boys began, he willingly traded it for a vehicle that could tow the family trailer, a small sacrifice that spoke volumes about his devotion.
A Life of Hands-On Passion
Beyond his career, Clarence had a lifelong passion for cars, whether it was restoring a 1984 El Camino with Keith, working on a 1985 Chevy S-10, or teaching his sons how to drive a standard. He took great pride in those lessons, always ready to rescue them from their driving mishaps—no matter how big or small. These were the moments he cherished most, passing down not just skills, but stories and memories that will last for generations.
Clarence also loved tackling home projects, whether fixing things around the house or helping family with renovations. His patience and determination were unmatched, even when things didn’t go as planned—like the time a torch fell down a wall or a misjudged pipe cut led to a flooded basement. These moments became cherished family stories, always retold with laughter.
An adventurer at heart, Clarence never shied away from excitement—like the time one of the boys caught a shark, a story that has since become legendary among his family.
A Devoted Family Man
Family was at the heart of everything Clarence did. He took immense joy in spending time with his grandchildren, ensuring that summers were filled with unforgettable moments—movies, Armour Transport celebrations, ice cream outings, and family trips to Hatfield Farms. His quiet presence was a source of comfort, and his love was felt in every small gesture.
Family and Loved Ones
Clarence is survived by his loving wife, Lynne Constance Tibbo; his son, Clarence “Little Clarence” (Kirsty) Tibbo, from his previous marriage; and his three sons, Craig (Catherine) Whittaker, Keith (Laurie) Whittaker, and Eric (Linda) Whittaker. He was a proud grandfather to eight cherished grandchildren.
Clarence is also survived by his siblings Barry, Dennis, Shirley, Gladys, and Merrill, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, Merrill and Gladys Tibbo, and his siblings Ralph, Fred, and Sandra.
Honoring Clarence
To honor Clarence’s memory, the family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation or The CLEAR Foundation.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date, where close friends and family will gather to share memories, gratitude, and laughter—just as Clarence would have wanted.
Though he is no longer with us, Clarence’s love and the memories he created will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. A truly good man, his kindness and steady presence made the world a better place, and we are all better for having known him.
