


Obituary of Jason James Smith
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jason James Smith. Beloved son, nephew, brother, partner, father and friend, passed away March 7, 2025, at home in West Chezzetcook, Nova Scotia, at the age of 51. He was born on November 7, 1973, in Halifax, NS. His life, though cut short, brought joy, laughter, unforgettable memories, and unwavering love, to those who knew him.
Jason was a devoted partner to Brenda Young (Since October 1997), with whom he shared an extraordinary bond. Their love was a testament to the strength of companionship, together creating a warm and welcoming home filled with love and laughter. Jason was also a very proud father to his cherished daughter, Jessica Young-Smith, who is the light of his life and constant source of pride and joy.
He is survived by his loving parents James & Greta Smith, who instilled in him the values of hard work, integrity, and love. Jason also leaves behind his sister Denise Hannah (Alton, NS), brother Rodney Smith (Dartmouth, NS); together, they shared a bond of love and camaraderie, that will never be forgotten. He relished in the joy of family gatherings and cherished the close relationships he had with his niece Alyssa Smith-Weagle (Alton, NS), and nephews Christopher Trebinski-Smith (Alton, NS), and Harley Smith-Weagle (Alton, NS). Many Aunts and Uncles, and cousins. Each of them will carry forward his legacy of kindness and adventures in their hearts.
Jason is pre-deceased by his grandparents.
Jason had a fulfilling 20-year career with Fleetway Inc (Dartmouth, NS) starting off in a warehouse, and ending as a Senior Technical Editor in Information Management. His professional life reflected his meticulous attention to detail, dedication to excellence and expertise, earned him the respect of his colleagues.
Outside of work, Jason embraced life with open arms. He was an avid outdoorsman, all year round. He found solace in nature, camping under the stars and at home bon-fires, hunting, fishing/ice fishing, or just enjoying the ATV adventures with his best friend Barrie. Gardening and yard work were not chores for Jason, they were hobbies that brought him joy and a sense of accomplishment. He loved anything that allowed him to connect with nature and spend time outside.
Jason’s infectious laughter and vibrant spirit brought joy to everyone he met. He had an incredible ability to light up a room with his presence, that his friends and family will forever cherish the memories they created together. He has a unique gift for making those around him feel special and valued.
A Celebration of life will be held at The Anglican Church of Saint Andrew, 2 Circassion Dr, Dartmouth, NS B2W 5C2 on March 22, 2025 at 1pm. The family encourages all who knew him to share stories, laughter, and tears in his honor, of a remarkable man who touched the lives of so many.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you take a moment to appreciate the beauty of nature, and go on an adventure, or spend time with your loved ones – Just as Jason would have wanted.
Rest in Peace Jason James Smith. You will be missed more than words can express, and your spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew you.
