Rodney McVicar

Obituary of Rodney Ellis McVicar

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rodney "Rod" Ellis McVicar. He passed away peacefully at home on April 23. He was a caring person, who always brought people together. He had a passion for doing what was right, which was true to his many years with IBEW where he fought for workers rights. He always told you exactly how it was, which for many was seen as an endearing quality. He would bring life and laughter to almost any room he walked into. He was someone you could confide in and know you would never be judged. He was truly one of a kind.

Rod found his true love in Tia, his partner of 13 years. The two shared a deep bond built on love, laughter, and a shared sense of adventure. Whether they were exploring new places, camping under the stars, or simply spending time in nature, they embraced life together with open hearts. Tia was his best friend, travel companion, and greatest support, he loved her deeply, and their connection was something truly special.

Rod lived life to the fullest. He never took a moment for granted, and lived everyday like it was his last. He would often say you’ve got to “burn the candle at both ends” when he was hoping to get you to join him on one of his adventures. And he was right, you can’t take your time here for granted. You don’t know how much time you have.

He had a love for many things in life. He was passionate about motorbikes, off-roading in his jeep, and spending time outdoors. He was a fan of good food, whether it was cooking up something delicious in his kitchen, enjoying a slice of pizza, or brewing beer. He also had a soft spot for Christmas movies and loved listening to his favourite band the Pogues. Above all, he cherished spending time with his family and friends.

Rod is survived by his beloved partner and best friend Tia; his mother Debbie (Joe); his father, Bob (Chris); his brothers; Jason (Leona), Mark, and Joseph (Samantha); his sister Meiling; his niece, Bryanna; his nephew; Jacob; and many extended family members.

Rod will be greatly missed. His time was cut short, but his experiences in life were that of someone who lived a full one.

A celebration of life will be held to honor Rod in the summer. Details will be shared once arrangements are finalized.
