Philip Boudreau

Obituary of Philip Boudreau

Louis Phillip Boudreau - beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend - passed away on June 4th, 2025 at the age of 84.

Phillip was born on July 23rd, 1940 in Petit-de-Grat, Nova Scotia to parents Mary Barbara Landry and Alexander Boudreau. He was the eldest brother to eight siblings, Anthony, Ann (Frank), Cecil (Lorraine), Margaret, Donnie (Elaine), Lloyd, David (Denise) and Brenda (Troy).

In 1962, Phillip left home and spent four years working in the Canadian Coast Guard. After his years of service, he attended George Brown College in Toronto and obtained a trade certificate in plumbing.

In 1965, Phillip married his beloved wife, Diane. Together, they had three beautiful children, Darlene (Jean-Paul), Tracy (John), and Glen (Melinda). He was later blessed with three grandchildren, Matthew (Cristina), Karlee, and Carter.

Anyone who met Phillip walked away voicing the same thing - that he was one of the kindest, most selfless men they had ever had the pleasure of knowing.

A running joke in the family was that if you left Phillip alone for even a minute, it was a guarantee that you would return to find him deep in conversation with a new best friend. Animal, person, or inanimate object - Phillip had something about him that made everyone and everything he met instantly feel comfortable and safe. To Phillip, there was no such thing as a stranger - just a friend waiting to be made.

Everything that Phillip did, he did it with pride. If he was not sneaking a sweet treat behind Diane’s back or falling asleep into the pages of an Archie comic, you could find him pursuing his passion for plumbing or classic cars. Into retirement, he kept busy with the Halifax Antique Car Club, taking on odd jobs, and sharing his wealth of knowledge and experience with others. Phillip never hesitated to help someone in need, and was quick to offer assistance in any way that he could. If someone needed a tool, car part, or advice - Phillip was guaranteed to have it tucked away somewhere in his garage or in his memory, waiting to be shared.

Phillip’s unwavering loyalty to his loved ones was evident. He was present for every holiday, birthday party, and accomplishment he could be. In his conversations with strangers, he never failed to bring up how proud he was of his children and grandchildren for their accomplishments. If you ever had a bad day, doubted yourself, or fell into negativity - Phillip would be there to cheer you up. No matter the situation, Phillip always chose to look for the positives. On the darkest of days, you would never be able to walk away from a conversation with Phillip without a smile on your face or a laugh still caught in your throat.

Phillip’s family asks that you keep his memory alive by continuing to spread the same kindness that he did. Smile at a stranger, offer every helping hand you can, and remember to always look on the bright side - no matter how cloudy it may get.

A funeral service and reception will be held in L’Ardoise, Cape Breton at a later date.
