Obituary of Gerald Wane George
Age 85 of Halifax, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2025. Born in Halifax on October 24, 1939, he was the son of the late Howard and Annie (Pellerine) George.
Gerald grew up in South End Halifax and raised his family in Fairview, where he also proudly tended to his beautiful garden. Over the years, he worked in communications and documentation roles at Maritime Telegraph, Mather’s Travel, and the Halterm Container Terminal, before finishing his career as a custodian with the Halifax District School Board. Raised Catholic, he sang in the church choir, was a popular fixture at CYO gatherings (as a dance partner and a DJ), and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Gerald was a fabulous cook, and took joy in sharing his meals and baking with everyone. One of his favourite activities was doing puzzles on the kitchen table while listening to music. But above all, he loved his family. He was a devoted husband and father, a loving grandfather and great-grandfather.
He is survived by his beloved wife, of 57 years, Janis (Horne) George; his daughters, Karen and Heather (Peter); his grandchildren, Taylor, Julie, Gavin, Logan and Soren; his great granddaughter, Wyatt; his sister, Frances; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Gerald was predeceased by his brothers, Basil, Patrick, and Herman (Cecil).
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him for his generous, playful and warm spirit. He brought light and love to those around him.
As per Gerald’s wishes, there will be no viewing or formal service. He will be laid to rest at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Lower Sackville, NS. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the nursing staff of the QEII (8.4) for their attentive and compassionate care.
We’ll love you forever, Gerald (Dad).
