Obituary of Leo Patrick Meagher

December 14, 1960 – July 30, 2025
Bedford, Nova Scotia

With heavy hearts, we announce the sudden passing of Leo Patrick Meagher on July 30, 2025, at the age of 64. Leo was a devoted husband, proud father, loving grandfather, and loyal friend — known for his warm heart, easy conversations, and willingness to help anyone in need.

If you knew Leo, you knew he always knew someone — or someone who knew someone. He never passed up a chance for a friendly chat, whether he was out and about in Bedford or dropping in on his closest buds in Fall River. His presence left a lasting impression everywhere he went — and on everyone he met.

Leo worked in several roles throughout his life, but most knew him as a caring and dependable colleague, mentor, and friend. He retired in 2021 after 14 years of dedicated service with Halifax Transit’s Access-A-Bus division, only to return to work shortly after — this time as a special needs school bus driver, a role he truly cherished. He officially retired again on June 30, 2025.

Leo’s impact extended far beyond the workplace. He was deeply involved in his community, giving his time and heart to:

LWF Baseball

LWF Fire Hall

WJCC Community Centre

Mentor Trainer & Health and Safety Rep for Access-A-Bus

Union Vice President, Transco
…and so much more.

He was a passionate Boston Bruins fan (he never missed a game) and a loyal General Hospital watcher — it had to be live at 3 or 5, no exceptions. Leo found joy in the simple things: birdwatching, music, long drives, and time with his family or lifelong friends — whether in the garage or on the water.

Leo is predeceased by his parents, Harold “Bub” and Glenda Meagher, and step-siblings Laurie (Loretta), Jeanne Caudle (Edward), and Judy Vance (Stephen).

He is survived by his loving wife, Joanne, and his children: Mike, Dustin, Kiana, and Thai, as well as his grandsons, Ethan and Austin.

Also left to mourn are his siblings: Mary (Owen), Ivan (Irene), Jane (David), and Peggy (Christopher); his step-sister Susan (late Doug); and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Cremation has taken place in accordance with Leo’s wishes. We will honor his life with a Celebration of Life on August 31, 2025, LWF Community Hall — 843 Fall River Road. Times to be announced.

Forever loved. Deeply missed. Always remembered.
