Obituary of John William Werry
WERRY, John William “Jack” - Age 92, Brookfield, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 27th, 2025, at the Sagewood Nursing Home, Lower Sackville. Born in Halifax, he was the only child of Annie (Shay) and Elmer Werry.
Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Violet (Houlbrook) “Vi”, and daughter Sharon Funkal.
He will be deeply missed by his children, Jackie (Shelley), Kathy, Lisa (David); grandchildren, Jamie, Danielle (Allan), Natasha, Jason, Jack Jr. (Paige), Taylor (Josh); great grandkids, Kyler, Tad, Nabryah, Georgia, Emily and Ethan.
Jack’s career with Argo Flooring began in his teenage years, and he proudly remained with the company until his retirement.
He was a longtime member of the Miniature Aircraft Society of Truro (MAST), where he enjoyed building and flying model planes. Jack had a natural curiosity and loved to tinker.
He found peace in nature, often taking long walks, hunting, or fishing. At his home on Shortt’s Lake, he could be frequently found relaxing on the deck, joking that he was “surveying his property”. Jack and Vi were often seen boating around the lake together, savoring the simple pleasures of lake life.
Jack had a deep appreciation for the small joys of everyday living whether it was sipping a Cuban rum in his favorite chair, hitting the dance floor when a good tune played, or enjoying a friendly game of pool. Jack and Vi were Snowbirds for many years, travelling to Zephyrhills, Florida where they relaxed in the sun by the pool.
During his later years at the nursing home, Jack quickly became a favourite among the staff, who affectionally nickname him “Grandpa Jack”.
A simple treat, his favorite, an ice cap from a visitor, never failed to lift Jack’s spirits.
The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the staff at the Sagewood Nursing Home for the outstanding care, compassion and support shown during Jack’s final days.
Please consider making a donation in Jack’s memory to a charity that was close to his heart. He was a long time supporter of Souls Harbour Rescue Mission, as he deeply believed in the meaningful impact they make in the lives of those in need.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Maritime Cremation Centre Funeral Home in Lr. Sackville. Private messages of condolence may be sent to the family by viewing Jack’s obituary on-line and selecting “Send A Condolence” at: www.maritimecremation.ca
