Obituary of Francis Blaise Briand

Francis “Blaise” Briand

Passed away peacefully on September 16, 2025 at the VG site of the QEII Health Sciences Center, in Halifax, Nova Scotia at the age of 68. Blaise was born on March 12, 1957 in Inverness Cape Breton and raised in L’Ardoise where he lived most of his life. 

Survived by brothers Joey (Brother Matthew Briand) Leo Briand, Paul Briand (Sally) and sisters Natalie (Fenton) Milligan, Elaine (Marvin) Milligan, Anne (Duane) MacKay,  sister-in-law Marian Briand, 21 nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews who loved their visits with Uncle Blaise. He was predeceased by loving parents James Martin and Minnie Kate (Clannon) Briand, brothers Louis and James Briand, sister-in-law Irene (McGrath) Briand and niece Melissa Briand.

Blaise worked as a carpenter and in his retirement enjoyed fishing, reading the newspaper at Point Michaud beach and visits with friends and family where he rarely passed on a game of cribbage and always had a good story to tell.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Maritime Cremation Center. A wake will be held at Holy Guardian Angels Funeral Home on Friday, September 26, 2025 from 10:00am until 12:00 pm, with funeral mass at 2pm at Holy Guardian Angels Parish, L’Ardoise. Interment to follow at Holy Guardian Angels Parish Cemetary. A reception will be held in the L’Ardoise Community Center after the interment.
