Obituary of Melvin Clarence Organ

August 14, 1945 – February 22, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Melvin “Bud” Organ in February 2026, at the age of 80.

Bud was a bright light in the lives of all who knew him. A devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be remembered for his contagious smile, his heart of gold, and his many heartfelt stories. There truly wasn’t a situation in life that Bud didn’t have a story for — and if you were lucky enough to meet him, you likely heard one. He loved people, loved to tease, and never missed a chance to share a laugh. His warmth and sociable nature drew people to him wherever he went.

Above all else, Bud was an amazing dad and a proud grandfather. He leaves behind his loving daughters, Heather Organ-Sheppard, (Neil Sheppard), and Marie Foran (Greg Foran). He was the cherished grandfather of Ben and Gracie Foran, who brought immense joy and pride to his life.

He is also lovingly remembered by his sister Myra MacNeill, niece Jayma Knudslien (Bill) of Grande Prairie Alberta, great nephews Ethan and Jonah and great niece Cassidy Daniel, brother-in-law Robert Hiscock (Marjorie), nephew Robert (Scott), niece Jeanna (Richard) great nephew Owen, nephew Ryan (Angela) great nephew Jay, his sister-in-law Judy Heffern (Keith Gilman) along with many extended family members and dear friends.

Bud was predeceased by his loving wife, Jeanette (Hiscock) Organ, who passed away in October 2025. Their love and partnership were a true example of devotion. He missed her deeply. Also predeceased by his parents Michael and Elise Organ, his father-in-law Jonas Hiscock and mother-in-law Trixie Hiscock, his brother-in-law James MacNeill and niece Susan Daniels.

An entrepreneur at heart, Bud began his working years alongside his father in their family mercantile businesses along the Labrador coast where he was proud to call Red Bay home. Later, he and Jeanette bought and operated a beloved chicken bar and hardware establishment in Eastport, Newfoundland. He was a well-known and well-loved member of those communities. In his retirement, he returned home to Norris Point, Newfoundland, where he continued his love of woodworking, fishing and building friendships.

Bud was a passionate and active member of the Lions Club, in both Eastport and Norris Point. Giving back to his community meant everything to him and he would do anything he could to help someone in need.

To know Bud was to love him. His laughter filled rooms, his kindness touched countless lives, and his legacy will live on in the many stories shared by those who were fortunate enough to call him family or friend.

He will be forever loved, deeply missed, and never forgotten.

Cremation has taken place at Maritime Cremation Center. Funeral to take place in Norris Point, Newfoundland this summer (TBA).
