Obituary of Frances Lorraine Diamond
Frances Loraine Diamond (Whidden), born July 22, 1941, in Stewiacke, Nova Scotia, passed away at home, surrounded by the love of her family. She was the daughter of the late Moyle and Thora (Barkhouse) Whidden and was predeceased by her beloved husband, Ralph Gordon Diamond, and her sisters Ann and Sheila. She is survived by her siblings Vicki, Barbie, Havey, and David.
Frances was a devoted mother to her three children: Gordon (Debbie), Bonnie, and Ralph (Sheila). She was a proud grandmother to twelve grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. She will also be lovingly remembered by her faithful dog, Raven, her constant companion who rarely left her side.
Beyond her devotion to family, Frances will be remembered for her creativity, playful sense of humour, and the warmth she brought to those around her. She loved spending time nurturing her large garden, painting decorative woodwork, and knitting mittens and dishcloths for family and friends. She also found great joy in cooking for the people she loved and was especially famous for her homemade eggrolls, which she would spend hours carefully preparing.
She was known for her mischievous streak and her love of a good prank. Family members were often startled by Frances hiding around corners in dark hallways, waiting to surprise them with a laugh. Her playful nature dated back to childhood, when she once convinced her mother to join her in a rowboat on the pond, removed the oars, and pushed the boat out before running off to spend a week at her grandparents’ home—a story that became a beloved piece of family lore.
A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Those wishing to honour her memory are encouraged to reach out to their elected representatives to advocate for public supports that help seniors remain living safely and comfortably at home.
