Family gathering to receive condolences and share memories
Obituary of Ronald John Frederick Lindala
Ronald John Frederick Lindala born August 22, 1938 in Sudbury Ontario and passed away peacefully in his 88th year surrounded by family on April 24, 2026 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Raised in a Finnish household, he learned English once he began school in Toronto. He was proud of his Finnish heritage.
Ron loved cooking, wine, woodworking, family, and travel—not necessarily in that order. He loved his children and his grandchildren (perhaps even more), as well as walking through the woods and boating at Cumberland Point.
Family and friends will remember Ron as a dedicated community volunteer. He was involved with Scouts Canada, Junior Achievement, the Jemseg Lions Club, the volunteer fire department, and the New Brunswick Liberal Party. He also enjoyed his time serving as Chairman of the Board of Alcool NB Liquor as well as serving as trustee for Region 3 Hospital Corp.
Known as “Papa” for the last 30-plus years, Ron shared his talents as an artist and woodcarver with many. He was a wonderful chef and host. He was, to say the least, enthusiastic about his own birthday and celebrated his birthday month each year—a tradition he passed on to his family. He played “Chipman rules” for Scrabble with the Wassons and sometimes let them win. Despite Parkinson’s slowing him physically, he remained youthful, spirited, and mentally sharp.
He was very proud of his family. Survived by his loving wife Vanna Wasson, sons: Roger (Stephanie), Ronnie (Marina), Richard (Kendra) Raymond (Tami), daughter Hilja (Matthew DeWolfe). Papa to Emma (Mitch) Folkins, Bennet (Kennedy) Lindala, Devin (Kylee) Lindala, Aili and Reagan DeWolfe.
He is predeceased by his mother Elvie Agnew (Stenman); father Frederick Lindala, and sister Anita Daniels.
As Papa requested there will be no formal service, the family will receive condolences and share memories, good food, wine and whiskey. The family will be happy to host on April 30 between 1-4pm at 134 Eaglewood Drive Bedford NS.
If you wish donations can be made to the Parkinson Society Nova Scotia in his name. parkinsonsocietynovascotia.com
