Obituary of Andrew William Butcher

September 25, 1962 – April 28, 2024

Andrew William Butcher, beloved husband, father, brother, and son, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2024, at the Palliative Care Unit of the QEII Hospital in Halifax, Nova Scotia, after a brief but valiant battle with brain cancer. He was surrounded by his devoted wife of 29 years, Barbara, and his beloved daughter, Hayleigh.

Born and raised in Colchester, England, Andrew was predeceased by his parents, Sonia and Kenneth Butcher, and sister, Lynn. He is survived by his brother, Mark Cranfield.

Andrew immigrated to Canada in the early 90s, calling Saint John, New Brunswick, home for many years, before settling in Nova Scotia with his family in 2016.

Andrew was a loyal and dedicated husband, often referring to Barbara as the love of his life. He was a shining role model for his daughter, Hayleigh, who always strove to make him proud.

In his leisure time, Andrew found joy in crafting model ships and pursuing woodworking projects around the house. His skills as a DIY enthusiast were matched only by his passion for IT security, a field to which he dedicated the majority of his professional career. Andrew was a respected figure within the cybersecurity community, known for his unwavering commitment to "fighting the good fight" alongside his team members. After retiring happily in 2023, he continued to pursue his hobbies and enjoy life's simple pleasures.

Andrew will be remembered for his kindness, love, stubbornness, and quick wit, qualities that endeared him to many. He leaves behind his favourite puppy, Gemma, who brought him immeasurable joy.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the palliative care team at the QEII Hospital for their exceptional compassion and support during this challenging time.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Andrew can be made to the Nova Scotia SPCA, Hospice Halifax, or The Constable Royce Isenor Community Scholarship Fund.

A celebration of Andrew’s life will be held at Maritime Cremation Centre, 67 Temple Terrace, Lower Sackville, on May 4th, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. with a reception to follow.

Andrew's memory will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and colleagues. May he rest in peace.
