i only met aleem once, looking for good eats at the market.
lo and behold, aleem was in a small corner serving doubles and roti!
i told him this is the food i crave, as my father is also trini, and there isn't a lot of caribbean fare in NS.
he mentioned he missed the island food so he started making it himself and opened a stall to share with others.
i'm super thankful that i was able to meet aleem, even ever so briefly to share in his love of food and culture.

My deepest condolences to Aleem's family. I met Aleem at the Seaport Market and would pick up a couple doubles and/or roti every couple weeks. Aleem was an interesting man and we would talk about Trinidad, Football and calypso (not soca) and parang music. Quite often he would mention his children and grandkids and how proud he was. I will miss our little chats.
Sincerely
Chris Brown

I was a dear friend of Aleem since 1967. We came to Dalhousie the same year 67. We are still friends on Facebook and we always hooked up whenever he came to Trinidad. RIP Aleem

Jamil, Nadia, Janice and Families
Words cannot express my feelings on the loss you have experienced. I want you all to know you are in my thoughts and prayers. May you draw strength from one another during this time of sorrow and know that others are sharing your grief.
Unfortunately at my age, reading the obituaries is a rite of passage. This morning I was stunned by the smile before I read with sadness, your loss. I don't remember the hair but that smile defines the soccer dad I met in the late 80's who talked me in to coaching mini and being the club treasurer.
I last saw Aleem several months ago as we met in Luigi's barber shop. Although I had not seen him in years we were quickly transported back to the CPYSA days and the joys of growing families. As always he was extremely proud of his children. He beamed as he updated me on Jamil and Nadia and glowingly described his grandchildren.
I am glad to have known Aleem "the Dream". He has left us far too soon.
Although not here in body
His spirit still remains
Etched in everyone of you
Your loss but yet your gain
With my deepest sympathy

I am very sorry to hear of your loss. I have fond memories of Aleem supporting soccer whether it was at Dubrack or just soccer in general! He was a gracious and kind man and I will always remember his smile and voice encouraging us young soccer players. Thank you Aleem! Rest in peace. I, too can attest to Aleens passion for soccer and remarkable patience with the children. My niece played soccer during those years and he was there at every game cheering and providing support! God Bless his family and friends during this sad time! Peace and prayers. Thank you Aleen for your coaching abilities and love. Quinlan family. <3
