Obituary of Donna Lynn Richards

Donna Lynn Richards, age 68, formerly of Murray Harbour PEI, peacefully passed away with family at her side on April 14, 2024 at Sagewood Continuing Care Home in Lower Sackville Nova Scotia, after a prolonged twenty plus year battle with disabling MS.

Born in Montague PEI on December 15, 1955, Donna is survived by her sisters, Esther (Dougie, deceased)  Martell, Gail (Guy) MacKenzie, Irene (Kelly) Holt, Peggy (Dave Demoe) Richards.  Also survived by Aunt Edith (John, deceased) Young, Aunt Cathy (Boyd, deceased) Richards, seven nieces and nephews, and ten great nieces and great nephews.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents Randall and Annie (nee O’Connor) Richards, her brother Randy Richards, her good friend Les, and her beloved cat, Rocky.

Some of Donna’s favourite things during her life included walking, reading (especially mystery novels), cute animal characters, stickers and storybooks, church, movies, music and singing, bowling, and all kitty cats (especially her own cat Rocky, and Sagewood cat companions Gomez and Leo).
A family trip to Europe with siblings Irene (and Kelly), Randy and Peggy in the early 1990s was a highlight, with many cherished memories and lots of laughs. Donna enjoyed her job and co-workers with the Nova Scotia Department of Transportation in Halifax.  She loved all good food, but especially steak and potatoes, strawberries and chocolate, and other tasty treats.

Heartfelt thanks go to the truly exceptional nursing staff at Sagewood who provided not only nursing care and friendship for Donna during her nine year stay there, but also created a peaceful, loving and compassionate environment during her transition from this life to the next. Many thanks also to Donna’s former Dartmouth neighbour and longtime friend Susan Warman, and sister Irene who spent much time at Donna’s bedside providing company, comfort and care to her during her final days.

Donna’s preference was for no visitation or service, however online condolences and photos may be added through her online obituary at www.maritimecremation.ca.

If so desired, donations to the MS Society in Donna’s memory would be appreciated.

Goodnight Donna,
You’re finally free,
May flights of angels
Sing you to your rest.
