Obituary of Graham A. “Sandy” MacDonald
A loving husband, father and proud military veteran, MWO retired, passed away in Camp Hill Veteran’s long term care facility on June 3, 2024. Sandy was born to A. Graham MacDonald and Dorothy (Doe) MacDonald (MacNeill) on November 27, 1945, in Pictou. He joined the RCAF Police in 1963. Following the integration of the Canadian Forces, Sandy proudly served in a variety of locations throughout Canada, Europe and the Middle East until his retirement as Section Commander, Special Investigation Unit, Halifax in 1988. He then embarked on a second career as Director of Security, Dalhousie University until his retirement in 2010.
Sandy was a devoted husband and father. His four boys were his pride and joy. He loved attending his sons’ activities and sporting events. He was so comforted by the fact that they all found wonderful partners. He loved his daughters-in-law and his precious grandchildren very much. Sandy had a blessed retirement. The “Fall River walker” logged countless miles on his 10-mile daily route, enjoyed many Moosehead hockey games, golfing and sailing with his friends, as well as countless couples’ dinners over the years with several friends’ groups. Sandy loved to plan cruises and he delighted in seeing many parts of the world with Mona. Even though this smart, independent and wonderful man lost so much of his memory, he did not lose his witty sense of humor. He was kind, gentle and always had a smile ready for his loved ones, Camp Hill staff and fellow residents alike.
Sandy is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Mona (Fougere), and sons Larry (Mikah), Darren (Mimi), Neil (Maria), Todd (Melissa), grandchildren Bronwyn Skidd, Cassius, Louis and Kofi MacDonald, and step-granddaughter Kaia Deraat.
Visitation will be held from 9 am-10:45 am at the Havre Boucher Parish Centre, Funeral Mass to follow at 11 am on Saturday, June 8, 2024.
Family flowers only please.
