Obituary of Stephen Wayne Smith

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Stephen Wayne Smith, 61 (May 2, 1963). Stephen passed away peacefully in the QE2 hospital, with family at his side, on August 8th, 2024 after battling brain cancer for two years. Stephen was born in Halifax, NS where he spent time split between Halifax and Cape Breton where he surrounded himself with many family and friends.

Stephen was a beloved family member, son of predeceased mother Patricia O’Neil and father Donald Smith. Stephen was one of four brothers including Michael (deceased) Chris and Kevin. Stephen was a proud father of Chad (deceased) and Devin (Beth). Stephen was fortunate to have four grandchildren who he lived for, as he continued to fight against his illness. Shianne, Savanaa, Archie, and Rory made Stephen so proud. He cherished them deeply. Stephen is also survived by many extended families.

Stephen’s passions were as varied as they were profound. He had a great love for baseball, hockey, golfing, playing music, and attending concerts, finding joy in each. Professionally, Stephen was a standout, excelling in his career by achieving five trades and concluding his tenure as an HVAC Technician for BC Place in Vancouver.

Stephen will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his enthusiasm for his hobbies, and his exceptional work ethic. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

We will celebrate Stephen’s life on Saturday, August 17, 2024: A private family burial will take place at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Lower Sackville at 11am, followed by a Celebration of Life at 1:00pm at 218 Basswood Run Apartment Building Link Entrance in Dartmouth. All who knew Stephen are welcome to attend and honour his memory.
