Obituary of Wendy Jacqueline Nancy Bowman
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Jakye Bowman (Wendy Jacqueline Nancy, née Vaschel) announce her passing. She passed peacefully at home on Saturday, November 16th, at the age of 70.
Jakye was born in New Glasgow at The Aberdeen Hospital to Garfield and Pearl (Avery) Vaschel. She was one of four siblings.
She had a love for gardening, preserving pickles and jams, knitting, visiting the camp, and watching game shows. If her favorite shows, Days of Our Lives, was on, she was not available for anything else. Above all, she adored her many grandchildren and lovingly gave each of them a special nickname.
In early adulthood Jakye worked in The Aberdeen Hospital's food services, then decided to focus her attention on her growing family. Later on, she worked in childcare and then at a local fish plant.
She is survived by her husband Gerald Ernest Bowman. Together they have four children: Apryl (Danny), Adam (Jennifer), Jamie (Mike) and Nicholas (Tanya). Her eldest daughter, Sonya (Mike), was adopted and raised by Jakye’s parents. Jakye has 8 grandchildren, Cayla, Ashtyn, Shyleigh, Leelyn, Jocalynn, Hanna, Conner and Sophie; her sister, Karleen MacLaren. Beside her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Sharon MacPherson; infant brother, Maurice Vaughn.
Thank you to the wonderful VON Nurses and all the medical providers overseeing Jakye's care in recent years.
In keeping with the family’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held on Monday, November 25 at 3PM in Lorne Street Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Our Lady of Lourdes Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jakye’s memory may be made to the SPCA.
