Obituary of Shirley Mae McKinnon

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beautiful Mom, Shirley Mae Mckinnon ( Harding) on January 12th at the QEII Health Sciences Centre, surrounded by her loving family.

Mom was born on September 1st, 1939, to the late Wallace and Adelaide (Byrne) Harding of Kearney Lake.

She was a social butterfly. She loved spending quality time with her family and friends. You could usually find her on the phone having a chat with someone unless it was off the hook! She spent countless hours at her kitchen table reading, doing puzzles or playing crazy 8’s with the Grandkids. Dad would always have a unique bouquet of ‘flowers’ for Mom to display including: mayflowers, lilacs, daisies or an assortment of weeds he found in the yard. Mom and Dad would head down to their camp in Mooseland every weekend. They enjoyed getting together with their friends, going to crib tournaments and heading to the fishing hole; where in typical Mom fashion she would fall in and need a quick rescue from Art.

She was a devoted mother to her children, Brian (Cathy), Alan (Krista), Cathy (Richy), and Scott (Theresa). She was the cherished ‘Nanny’ of her grandchildren, Aaren (Devon), Andrea (Ben), Jillian, Scott, Kaelin (Grant) and Bryson. She adored watching and spoiling her great grandchildren Alexis, Oaklyn, Reece and Kynleigh. She will also be dearly missed by her sister-in-law Marie Warman (Moe).

Mom was predeceased by her husband and soulmate of 66 years, Brant. Her parents, Wallace and Adelaide Harding. Siblings, Gordon (Jean), Murray (Eleanor) and Jim (Donna). Nephews, David, Ronnie and Bobby.

And her dear friends, Rena, Ruby, Gerry and Betty-Ann.

Our parents were simple folk and always welcomed people into their home with a ‘come as you are’ attitude. It brings us comfort to know that Mom is reunited with our Dad, as they would have never wanted to be apart for long.

The family would like to thank VON’s Susan and Jill, for the care and companionship that they gave Mom in her final years.

Cremation has taken place under the care of Maritime Cremation Centre, Lower Sackville. In honor of Mom and Dad’s wishes a private family interment will be held.
