I just became aware of the recent passing of this wonderful man and wanted to add a few words to describe his impact on me. As an 8 year old child of a single mother, living in an apartment building in Westphal, I had a dream to play ice hockey. Being on social assistance at the time and not having transportation, Mr Mullane, who I had never met before, found out about my situation and volunteered to help. As far as registration, he pulled some strings. He also would pick me up at 5:30 every Saturday morning to bring me to the Bowles Arena and back. I specifically remember his friendly demeanour, and how reliable he was, even in bad weather. I also remember him being a music fan and turning up the radio and singing loudly with the Hall and Oates song “ Maneater”. He was a better hockey coach and person than he was a singer. He helped to make sports and helping others a huge part of my life. I’m sure his actions had a ripple effect through many in the HRM community. Thank you Sir, for helping to show me how to be a man.

The end of an era. Future hockey players will be denied the opportunity to be coached by this man with so much wisdom, integrity, compassion and love of the game. Our sons had the privilege of being on Clarey Mullane coached teams and they are better young men for that experience. We are all fortunate for this man’s presence n our children’s lives and Clarey will always be remembered with great respect and as a true gentleman.

My condolences to the Mullane family. Clary was the epitome of a gentleman - always positive and pleasant.
Many people spoke online of his passion for coaching.
As a young lad, I had the pleasure of watching him play
hockey at the old Dartmouth Memorial Rink. His smooth skating and playmaking ability were unsurpassed! Later, as our midget coach, he patiently passed on these skills to our team. Clary (along with Malcolm and Basil) hired myself, Sam Moore and Andy Purchase at Bluenose. Clary was a respected mentor to many of our neighborhood gang. It was an honour to have known him!

It is with a heavy heart I am writing this. I am so very sorry to hear of the passing of Clary. Clary was without a doubt one of the kindest, gentlest and caring men that I had the pleasure of knowing. He was a regular at our Tim’s in Cole Harbour and there was not one time that I wasn’t greeted with his beautiful smile and a warm hug. Anyone that knew him loved him and he always made us feel special. I will hold his memory in my heart forever. I am so sorry that I never got to visit him when he stopped coming in. Time flew by.. but I can honestly say that he has crossed my mind many times since then and this picture with that smile is how I will always remember him. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Thank you Clary for your friendship.. you will never be forgotten xo

Patty, Joey and Rob,
Just wanted to send our deepest condolences from all the Jacob Family. Clary was one of our favourite uncles and in our younger years we would always enjoy when he dropped over to the old house on Rockwood Avenue from a job he was working on, to visit his parents. We would all sit around the kitchen table and listen to the chatter as he would talk about how the work was going and how all the family was doing and lots of back and forth about sports. As we got older, we would always enjoy visits to the house on Ross Road, especially at Christmas time. Our thoughts are with you now in this most difficult time. Love, Marc, Ralph, Terry, Beth, Suzanne and Denise.

As a young teenager Clary was my first catcher when I played fastball in Dartmouth. Above all else he was a gentleman and a friend. It didn’t hurt that he was built like superman but he didn’t need it as he was very calm under pressure.
Rest in peace Clary.

Hello Joe, I am so sorry to hear of your dad's passing. From what I have heard from you over the years and what I have read in the obituary today he sounds like he was a great guy and father. My condolences to the Mullane family. A real gentleman and one of solid faith. It was always a joy to chat with him after Mass over the years. We have an example of his woodworking skills in our "family home." He can now join St. Joseph in the "new" carpentry shop. Blessings, Fr. Jim Richards
